It’s time for the LoA Q&A! Sometimes, the concept of the Law of Attraction is confusing and difficult to implement. My goal is to clear up some of that confusion and difficulty, so you can allow the really fun, creative stuff to start happening… now! Feel free to give me your feedback in the comments below and submit your questions, too!
“I’ve had my same vision board for about a year and a half now. Not much is happening. What’s the problem? Do I need to start over? Are my beliefs in question? Where should I start now?” —Megan
Thank you for your question, Megan! I’m loving that the questions that are coming in are so varied and so… well, frankly… challenging.
Let’s dive right in.
First, the Universe – frustrating as this may be – does not function on a specific timeline. We often want something and then forget about that whole “buffer of time” thing… and I promise it really is helpful and important that we have time in between the asking and the getting. However, sometimes the doubt that starts to come up when we feel it’s been entirely “too long” can be difficult to overcome.
So, are you looking at your vision board regularly and thinking to yourself, “What the what?! Nothing on here is actually happening!” Or else just having an overall feeling of disappointment about it?
If that’s the feeling you’re getting from your vision board, it’s time to shift your mindset, because – as they say – “you can’t get there from here.”
Let’s take each of your questions separately:
What’s the problem?
Let me explain. The energetic place of the problem is very different than the energetic place of the solution. In other words, you are “tuning” your “signal” to WTFM The Yuck, but wanting to hear what’s playing on WOWFM The Joy. It’s just not possible.
So, just like those old-fashioned radios where you have to turn a little knob to get to a new station, it’s time to start turning… the best way of doing that is to notice everything you do already have and really – to the core of your being – appreciate having them.
Do I need to start over?
Yes. And no. It depends on your mindset.
In other words, if you have established a belief that what’s on your vision board is never going to come true and every time you look at it you feel like “yuck” and you already want different things than what’s on that old vision board anyway, then it’s time to start over with a new one.
However, if you feel that the vision board in question is still an accurate depiction of what you want now in your life and you can shift your thinking about it, then there’s no need to start over entirely. Just be sure that you practice thinking about the having of these things, rather than the not having of these things.
Are my beliefs in question?
Our Source/God/Universe/etc. will never, ever question your beliefs… But, if you are questioning your direction, then that lack of clarity will definitely create a delay in the process. It’s kind of like this, Megan…
Imagine that you go to a restaurant, place your perfect, delicious order with the waiter and watch as he hurries off to tell the kitchen what they should be making for you. Then you go back to your conversation with your friends at the table with you.
Suddenly, you remember that you forgot to ask for your meal with no onions, so you flag down the waiter and ask him to make that modification to your order. He scrambles off to the kitchen to tell them to make sure no onions make it to your plate.
Then, you go back to chatting… at which point you realize you really don’t want the veggie of the day, you’d actually prefer fries with your dinner. So, you rush off to find your waiter. He’s nowhere to be found, so you try to find someone else in the restaurant to let the kitchen know. They find your waiter, who rushes to the kitchen to change your order again.
And, I could go on and on, but I think you get the picture. The deal is that the Universe is always giving you what you are thinking about. Notice my choice of wording there…. the Universe is giving you what you are thinking about… not what you are wanting… This is an important distinction, because we often believe that we are being very clear about our creation, but anytime we are focused on the not having of something or the looooong time it’s taking to get something or wondering why someone else already has that thing that we want, we are inadvertently putting more time in between us and the physical manifestation of that thing that we want.
So here’s my suggestion to you: make a list, every day for the next 14 days, of 10 things for which you are thankful. The first few days, this will be easy… then it will start to get a little bit harder. What it will force you to do, though, is to dig deep to find all the wonderful things in your life and to shift your focus off of the things that you believe you don’t yet have.
And then, Megan, that’s where the magic happens! Your focus on what you already have puts you in the mindset of someone who has all the things they want… and then you put all of your powerful creator juju to work for you, instead of running on default.
Vision boards are powerful tools if the energy, beliefs and thoughts you have about them feel good to you. This is the best way of re-energizing and re-invigorating their creative power… feel good about them, visualize everything coming into fruition and put yourself in the feeling place of already having them.
I hope this post is helpful for you, Megan, and any others who come across it. Feel free to share your thoughts, other questions or reactions to this post in the comments below.
